About the role

As a Design Engineer within our Mechanisms team, you will develop innovative mechanical solutions for the automotive industry, from pedestrian protection hood hinges and traditional mechanisms to active aerodynamics and powered closures. You will take designs from concept through to production, developing 3D CAD, engineering drawings and GD&T definition; supporting prototype builds and testing; and solving engineering challenges that arise along the way. You will combine mechanical design, kinematics and manufacturing know-how to turn challenging concepts into robust, production-ready mechanisms, working directly with our manufacturing divisions, suppliers and OEM customers. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field. Graduates and applicants with up to 3 years’ experience are encouraged to apply. Automotive engineering experience preferred, although strong candidates from similar engineering backgrounds will be considered. Excellent knowledge of 3D CAD and engineering drawing creation. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to conceptualise and develop mechanical components and mechanisms. Good understanding of mechanical principles including kinematics, loads, tolerances and component interfaces. Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture. Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance application. Knowledge of failure mode avoidance tools such as DFMEA and PFMEA. Experience in supporting prototype build and design validation would be an advantage. Understanding of active systems, including electric actuation, hydraulics and sensors, would be an advantage but is not required. High level of interest in automotive engineering and mechanical systems. Good written and verbal communication skills. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills. Practical, hands-on approach to engineering and product development. Hold a current passport and be able to travel as required.
