Overview By Peter Warr Peter Warr was best known for his management of the Lotus Formula 1 team, where he was one of Colin Chapman’s closest allies as well as the man who nurtured the early Formula 1 careers of Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell. Frank, informative and beautifully written, his memoir remained unfinished at the time of his death in 2010, but the bulk of his work was done and was published in 2012, complete with an introduction and epilogue by Simon Taylor. This long-awaited inside story, which is of particular interest for its author’s thoughts on Chapman and all the drivers he worked with, is a ‘must read’ for any Formula 1 enthusiast. The compelling memoir of a leading Formula 1 figure of the 1970s and 1980s. Candidly written, few punches pulled. The memoir of a man who came to know the legendary Colin Chapman better than almost anyone else – the first chapter is devoted to the author’s thoughts about Chapman. Half of the book is about the drivers Warr worked with – they are true greats and include 12 World Champions. Warr’s insightful driver appraisals put particular focus on Jochen Rindt, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ronnie Peterson, Mario Andretti, Elio de Angelis, Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna. Other chapters cover the mechanics and the engineers. The book is introduced with a biography of Peter Warr written by Simon Taylor, who knew him well and recorded many hours of interviews with him.
