Autobahn Country Club Full Circuit has completed a nearly $3 million expansion of its North Track in Joliet, Illinois.

The project is the first major phase of the venue's Drive to 2035 development plan. Autobahn says it is one of its largest track investments since the private motorsport club opened in 2004.

North Track grows to five configurations

The Tilke Engineers & Architects design adds approximately half a mile of circuit, including a 21-foot elevation change, an 11 per cent grade and a sequence of esses. The longest North Track layout will now measure 1.5 miles and contain 12 turns, compared with nine turns before the work.

New connection points allow the North Track to operate in five configurations. Autobahn says the additions take the complete campus to 11 road-course configurations, creating more options for member racing, training and commercial events.

The club describes the work as a member-experience and operational investment. It has not published the construction contractors, financing structure, final cost, capacity assumptions or expected return on the project.

Autobahn occupies a 330-acre site that also includes the South Track, a kart circuit, driver-training programmes, an off-road centre, autocross space, a skid pad and hospitality facilities. The company says more than 560 members participate in the club and its racing series runs 51 car races each year.

Opening remains subject to construction and weather

The club has scheduled a press and member introduction for 7 October, followed by the publicised OktoberFast opening weekend from 16 to 18 October. Its member announcement says the dates remain tentative and depend on weather and completion of construction.

The project is therefore physically advanced but not yet in normal member operation. The first scheduled competitive-use weekend will provide the first practical test of the new connections, traffic flow and event capacity.

For event organisers and suppliers, the expansion adds circuit inventory rather than a separate venue. Its commercial value will depend on how Autobahn packages the configurations for racing, testing, instruction, corporate programmes and hospitality.
