Honda Racing Corporation USA has appointed Kelvin Fu as its next president, effective 12 September 2026.
Fu succeeds David Salters, who is leaving the motorsport organisation to join a technology startup outside the industry. HRC US did not name that company or disclose further terms of either leadership change.
Internal succession
Fu joined the business in 2015, when it was known as Honda Performance Development. He initially managed chassis design, aerodynamics and performance engineering before becoming director of programmes in 2020 and vice-president in 2021.
His work has included the NSX GT3, Acura DPi and LMDh programmes, as well as relationships with Honda-powered racing teams. The appointment gives HRC US an internal successor with experience across engineering and programme management.
The company says Fu will oversee its North American racing activity, which includes IndyCar and IMSA, alongside newer commercial work in performance parts, merchandise and heritage racing.
Salters departs after six years as president
Salters joined HPD in 2015 as chief engineer and engine technical leader, became technical director in 2019 and was appointed president in 2020.
During his leadership, HRC US supported three IndyCar manufacturers' championships and five drivers' titles, as well as the 2022 IMSA team, driver and manufacturer titles. The organisation also developed the Acura ARX-06 LMDh car and contributed to IndyCar's hybrid programme.
Those results describe HRC US programmes across Salters' tenure; the announcement does not allocate individual technical responsibility for each outcome.
Fu's immediate priorities, management structure and budget authority were not detailed. The confirmed change is a planned internal handover at the head of Honda's North American racing organisation.
