Chip Ganassi Racing has signed Christian Lundgaard to a multiyear NTT IndyCar Series agreement beginning in 2027.
The team announced on 29 September that Lundgaard will drive the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda. He will join Alex Palou and Kyffin Simpson in Ganassi's three-car programme and succeeds Scott Dixon in the No. 9 entry.
Lundgaard moves after a 2026 season in which he won twice and finished a career-best third in the championship. Ganassi and INDYCAR identify the agreement as multiyear but do not disclose its duration, salary, performance provisions or option structure.
A proven race winner takes over the No. 9
The appointment gives Ganassi an established IndyCar winner for one of its principal entries. Lundgaard entered the series full-time in 2022 and has developed experience across road courses, street circuits and ovals before taking the new seat.
For the team, the move provides a defined successor in the No. 9 while retaining Palou and Simpson. The public announcement does not describe changes to the car's engineering group, PNC Bank's sponsorship term or the wider technical structure around the entry.
The timing allows Lundgaard and Ganassi to begin planning before the 2027 season, but the release does not give a testing schedule or say when he will first drive for the team. Any adaptation to Ganassi's systems, personnel and Honda package will therefore remain part of the off-season programme.
The signing is a sporting appointment with commercial implications for the No. 9's partners and activation programme. It is not a new team entry or ownership change, and no separate sponsorship agreement was announced alongside the driver contract.
