Legacy Motor Club has signed Josh Berry to drive its No. 42 Toyota Camry XSE in the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series.
Berry will join Erik Jones in the No. 43 and Riley Herbst in the No. 84 as Legacy expands to three full-time entries for the first time. Contract length and financial terms were not disclosed.
A return to Legacy in a full-time role
Berry previously made starts for the organisation as a reserve driver in 2023. He became a full-time Cup Series driver with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024 before moving to Wood Brothers Racing in 2025.
Legacy says Berry will arrive with six consecutive top-10 finishes during the current season. The team also highlights his Las Vegas victory with Wood Brothers Racing in March 2025, which was the organisation's 101st Cup Series win.
Those results provide sporting context for the appointment but do not establish how the No. 42 programme will perform after the move.
Three-car operation takes shape
The signing defines the final driver position in Legacy's planned 2027 line-up. Expanding from two to three full-time cars increases the organisation's requirements across engineering, car preparation, personnel, spares and trackside operations.
Legacy has not disclosed the crew chief, engineering structure, sponsorship package or testing plan for Berry's entry. It has also not said whether the expansion will change how technical information is shared across the three cars.
Berry is scheduled to make his full-time debut for the team at Daytona in February 2027. The appointment gives Legacy an experienced Cup driver for the No. 42 while it prepares the operational step to a three-car programme.
