Atlassian Williams F1 Team and Komatsu have extended their partnership beyond 2026, adding a defined technical role alongside their existing commercial and education programmes.
Under the renewed agreement, Komatsu becomes the team’s Official Hydraulic Innovation Partner. The companies say Komatsu engineers will apply hydraulic and advanced-manufacturing expertise to the development of components for future Williams Formula 1 cars.
From sponsorship to engineering work
Komatsu and Williams first worked together in the 1990s, when Komatsu manufactured gear components for the team’s 1996 and 1997 championship-winning cars. The current relationship resumed in 2024 and has included branding, employee engagement and the Komatsu Williams Engineering Academy.
The extension is commercially significant because it gives the partnership a direct technical workstream. Neither company has identified the car components involved, the financial value of the agreement or its precise end date. Claims about future performance therefore remain untested.
The announcement says the engineering academy will continue recruiting 10 Formula Student and Formula SAE participants each year. A Komatsu Williams Leadership Academy is also planned from 2027, while Komatsu’s support will expand across Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy.
What the agreement establishes
Komatsu will retain branding across Williams assets while adding engineering collaboration, knowledge exchange and workforce development. The combination creates a broader programme than a conventional visibility-led sponsorship.
For Williams, the value will depend on whether Komatsu’s manufacturing and hydraulic knowledge can be translated into reliable, regulation-compliant components and repeatable development processes. For Komatsu, Formula 1 provides a demanding environment in which to demonstrate its engineering capability and develop staff.
The companies have not published technical specifications, delivery milestones or performance targets. Those details will determine the practical scope of the collaboration as the programme develops.
