Citroën Racing Formula E Team has named TotalEnergies as an official partner from the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The agreement begins with Formula E Season 13, the championship’s first campaign under its GEN4 regulations. Citroën and TotalEnergies say the programme will combine team sponsorship with technical work on fluids for electric competition vehicles.

Formula E becomes a development environment

TotalEnergies plans to use Formula E testing and racing to develop and assess products in its Quartz EV Fluid range. The companies describe the work as covering high-performance fluids for electric vehicles, but have not published product specifications, test protocols or a timetable for transferring any development into customer products.

That distinction matters. The announcement confirms a development intention and an official-partner relationship; it does not establish that a new fluid has completed validation or reached the market.

Formula E’s GEN4 platform gives the partnership a technically relevant setting. Electric race cars place demanding thermal and mechanical loads on lubricants and related fluids, while tightly controlled competition creates repeatable operating data. Citroën and TotalEnergies have not quantified the laboratory, trackside or engineering resources assigned to the project.

A renewed long-term motorsport relationship

The companies trace their motorsport relationship to 1968 and highlight previous work in rallying. The Formula E agreement reunites the organisations in an official team programme with an electric-vehicle focus.

For Citroën Racing, the partnership adds an established automotive-fluids supplier as the team enters a new technical cycle. For TotalEnergies, it provides a visible competition platform and a claimed development route for its electric-vehicle product range.

The announcement does not disclose the agreement’s financial value, exclusivity, precise duration beyond its Season 13 start or performance targets. No separate product launch, supply volume or commercial sales commitment was announced. MRI is therefore treating the confirmed update as a combined technical and sponsorship partnership, not evidence of a completed consumer-product programme.
