McLaren Racing has signed AbbVie as an Official Pharmaceutical Partner of its Formula 1 team and will use the relationship to run a multi-year programme connecting championship points with charitable donations.
The parties announced the agreement on 20 October ahead of the United States Grand Prix. McLaren said the partnership begins at that event and will continue through a full-season activation in 2027. Contract value, branding inventory and the complete term were not disclosed.
The central activation is called AbbVie Race to Innovate. AbbVie says it will donate $10,000 to patient-advocacy organisations for every 10 Constructors’ Championship points McLaren earns. The company says the beneficiaries will support people living with immune-mediated diseases and that recipients and the total 2026 donation will be announced after the season.
The points mechanism gives the sponsorship a measurable output beyond media visibility, although the announcement does not state a maximum donation, minimum guarantee or how points will be counted if penalties alter the official championship total. MRI has therefore reported the published formula without estimating a final contribution.
AbbVie described the agreement as a platform for awareness, storytelling and fan engagement around innovation in immunology. Those are company claims rather than evidence of medical outcomes. The partnership announcement contains no product endorsement, clinical programme or technical work on the Formula 1 car.
For McLaren, the deal adds another global business-to-consumer partner to its Formula 1 portfolio. For AbbVie, Formula 1 provides an international communications and hospitality platform while the points-linked structure supplies a public measure of activity.
