WSR has announced its intention to run multiple cars in the new PM Junior Championship in 2027, adding an entry-level driver-development programme alongside its existing touring-car and GT activities.
The proposed series will run exclusively on the British Touring Car Championship support package and is aimed at drivers aged 14 to 17. WSR says discussions with the organisers are continuing, so the announcement establishes a planned programme rather than a completed entry with confirmed cars and drivers.
New step below touring cars and GTs
WSR has built its business around British Touring Car Championship competition and expanded into GT racing in 2026. The PM Junior plan would add a junior category at the beginning of the team's pathway, giving it a potential route for drivers to progress towards either touring cars or GT machinery.
The championship has been designed around cost control and a standard car supplied by Power Maxed Racing. WSR and Power Maxed have competed against one another in the BTCC, but the new programme would place WSR in the role of customer team running cars produced by a familiar rival organisation.
Team principal Dick Bennetts said WSR expects Power Maxed to build a capable car and believes WSR can operate it to a high standard. Sporting and operations director Carl Mitchell said the team intends to run several cars and views the series as part of a broader diversification strategy. Those expectations are statements from WSR; no independent performance data for the new car is yet available.
Commercial details remain open
A multi-car junior programme can create new revenue lines through driver seats, engineering services, partner inventory and progression packages. It also requires additional staff, spares, transport and workshop capacity. WSR has not disclosed the number of cars under consideration, the price of a seat, its driver-selection process or whether the programme will share personnel with its other teams.
The release also does not confirm signed entries, drivers, sponsors or a final operating structure. Because talks remain under way, MRI is treating the development as an announced intention rather than a guaranteed grid commitment.
Even at that stage, the plan is substantive for WSR: it would move the organisation into a younger age group and connect its senior race programmes to a defined introductory championship on the same event platform as the BTCC.
