The little team from Japan had one of the shortest F1 careers in history. But they did set a fastest lap record...or did they? Japanese team Kojima Engineering acquired a Cosworth DFV engine and built the purposeful looking KE007 in readiness for Japan’s first world championship Grand Prix at Fuji in 1976. Definitely not a back-marker, the car qualified 10th in hands of Masahiro Hasemi and is credited with the fastest lap of a race best remembered as the dramatic decider of the Hunt vs Lauda title fight. Unfortunately, Hasemi's fastest lap record is not without an asterisk. It was later claimed that Hasemi had Gran Turismo'ed his time by clipping a turn and the record was given to Jacques Laffite.
