Roush Yates Engines is integrating four Matsuura CNC machining centres into its manufacturing operation under a new strategic partnership with Matsuura Machinery USA.
The equipment is intended to expand the group’s capacity for precision-machined components supporting development and production of the Ford FR9 V8 used in NASCAR. It will also support Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions, the contract-manufacturing division that serves motorsport and other high-specification industries.
The companies did not disclose the value or duration of the agreement, the four machine models, their delivery schedule or the capacity increase expected from the installation.
More capacity for NASCAR component work
Roush Yates says its manufacturing division machines around 60% of the internal components used in the FR9 engine. The operation also produces NASCAR Next Gen chassis parts and provides machining, assembly, testing, distribution and engineering services.
Adding four machining centres can increase available production hours and give the business more flexibility when balancing internal racing demand with outside contract work. The release does not quantify current utilisation, cycle-time reductions or any additional staffing associated with the investment, so those potential benefits have not yet been measured publicly.
Ford Racing and Roush Yates Engines remain the exclusive builder combination for Ford’s NASCAR FR9 V8 programme. That makes manufacturing repeatability and component availability important not only to one team but to the wider group of Ford-backed entries supplied through the engine programme.
Contract manufacturing beyond racing
Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions holds AS9100 Rev D and ISO 13485 certifications and serves aerospace, defence, space and medical customers alongside motorsport. The new Matsuura equipment will therefore be used within a production business with markets beyond NASCAR.
Matsuura Machinery USA is the St Paul-based subsidiary of Japan’s Matsuura Machinery Corporation. Its range includes five-axis, vertical, horizontal, linear-motor and multi-tasking CNC equipment for complex manufacturing applications.
Both companies frame the agreement around precision, efficiency and repeatability. Those are their stated objectives; the announcement does not include independent productivity data or a technical comparison with the machines being supplemented or replaced.
For Roush Yates, the investment strengthens vertical manufacturing capability around a core NASCAR powertrain programme while adding capacity that can be sold to other industries. For Matsuura, the agreement places four of its machines inside a recognised racing-engine and advanced-manufacturing operation.
The confirmed development is the integration of four machining centres and the establishment of the supplier partnership. Commercial terms, detailed machine specifications, commissioning dates and measured production gains remain undisclosed.
