Westin Workman has been selected for the IMSA Diverse Driver Development Scholarship for 2027 and 2028, receiving benefits valued at up to $300,000.
Workman has chosen the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge as his 2027 programme and will continue with RAFA Racing Team in the Grand Sport category. The team operates Toyota GR Supra GT4 machinery.
Support combines funding with business preparation
IMSA describes the award as a package of benefits rather than a cash prize. The official announcement does not publish the complete allocation, payment schedule, sponsor contributions or conditions for receiving the maximum value.
The selection process included 15 finalists and training modules covering marketing, business development, personal branding, media work and nutrition. Applicants also submitted a business plan for their proposed 2027 programme.
That structure makes the scholarship relevant to the commercial side of driver development as well as competition. A funded seat still requires a viable team agreement, partner plan and programme budget, and IMSA's process asks candidates to demonstrate those elements before an award is made.
Workman has raced with RAFA Racing in the 2026 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge. At the time of the announcement, IMSA reported that he had won nine of ten Grand Sport X races and taken all ten pole positions in the No. 8 Toyota.
Those results are IMSA's published record entering the Road Atlanta finale. They provide sporting context for the award but do not guarantee the performance of the 2027 Michelin Pilot Challenge programme.
Team continuity accompanies the class move
Remaining with RAFA Racing gives Workman continuity in personnel and Toyota GT4 machinery while moving into a longer-format, multi-driver series. The release does not identify his co-driver, race budget, commercial partners or the exact entry structure.
The 2027 award creates a defined pathway into the next category and extends scholarship support across two seasons. Details of Workman's 2028 competition plan were not announced.
